About TypingDuck
TypingDuck is a place to practice the keystrokes you use every day. Its five main modes cover English words, a guided keyboard course, programming notation, numeric entry, and spreadsheet formulas. You can start any of these modes without an account.
Practice with a purpose
A short session is most useful when you know what you are working on. Choose a difficult letter, a group of punctuation marks, or a number format. Use the feedback to notice recurring mistakes, then repeat at a pace where you can correct the movement. The guides below each tool explain its controls and give concrete examples.
- Standard Typing — Practice English words, focus on individual starting letters, and learn how to interpret your typing speed and accuracy.
- Guided Typing — Learn the keyboard through 15 stages, with finger-placement guidance and practice that returns to your weaker letters.
- Programming — Practice typing JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, and Java, with original examples and guidance on punctuation and indentation.
- Ten-Key — Build numeric-keypad accuracy with number, decimal, currency, date, and arithmetic drills and a practical entry routine.
- Finance — Practice spreadsheet formulas and cell references, with worked examples explaining parentheses, ranges, and absolute references.
Understand your results
Raw WPM uses a standard five-character word unit. Accuracy counts correct keystrokes against all recorded keystrokes, including mistakes that you later correct. Guided Typing also uses letter-level accuracy and timing to decide when to introduce the next group. These are practice measures, not certifications, recruitment assessments, or guarantees of improvement.
Programming snippets and spreadsheet formulas are typing targets. TypingDuck does not execute code or calculate spreadsheets. We explain each mode’s behavior in its guide so you can choose exercises that fit your goal.
